Info from the Capital City of Lake County, Ohio
Welcome to LakeVortex. We welcome any kind of submitted information about Painesville, Ohio or Lake County, Ohio. Our purpose is to provide Information and Links that help residents and visitors stay involved in our community.

Painesville is the county seat of Lake County, Ohio. Established in 1805, the town was originally known as Champion, named for Henry Champion, the man who surveyed the community. Residents quickly changed the town’s name to Painesville, in honor of General Edward Paine, a hero of the American Revolution. The town’s most prominent resident during its first years of existence was Ohio Governor Samuel Huntington, who died in Painesville in 1817.

Painesville grew quickly, having 1,014 residents in 1840. In 1846, the town contained four churches, fourteen stores, one flour mill, one bank, and one newspaper office. It was the largest community between Cleveland, Ohio, and Erie, Pennsylvania. Painesville continued to grow over the next several decades. In 1880, 3,841 people inhabited the town. This growth was partly due to two railroad lines passing through the community, making Painesville a booming economic center. Four newspapers, five churches, and three banks existed in the town in 1886. Several manufacturing businesses operated in the town. The Paige Manufacturing Company, a machine works, was Painesville’s largest employer in 1886, with forty-eight workers.

During the twentieth century, Painesville continued to grow. In 2000, it ranked a distant fourth in size among Lake County towns, with just over 17,500 residents.

Healthy Eating - Are we killing ourselves?
With the onset of some recent unexplained, "doesn't make sense" type health problems we started some research and have finally concluded that our government is letting the large food companies kill us. Check out the following sites related to MSG (MSG Truth) and Aspartame(Aspartame Truths), two common "addidtives" to our everyday food.

Keep our City Government Honest! - Call your council person about the "Housing Taskforce"

Here is my opinion on this "Council appointed group". First, this was done so much behind the scenes that it is hard to tell what really prompted the formation of it. I first thought that it was the result of following through on a reco in the comprehensive plan, but that reco was for a neighborhood action group, not housing.
I actually didn't think a whole lot about the make-up of the task force until a month later some much needed legislation was introduced to council making landlords responsible for any unpaid utility bill that a tennant skipped out on. During the first meeting the legislation was introduced the local landlords association had a rep standup and speak against it. Everything seemed normal until all of a sudden council president Hada recomended it go on 3 readings and the "Housing Task Force" review it and come back to council with a recomendation.
I got interested because our council nevers questions anything publicly, when they do, dig deep enough and you will find some other motives behind it. I also got interested because I actually thought about this legislation and decided it would go a long way towards solving some of our rental problems in this city. As the proposed legislation quickly got killed and tabled through this process I looked up the "appointed" members of the task force and laughed out loud to myself at how obvious this was.  One member was the landlord associations rep that spoke against the legislation at the first meeting, another member was the director of the Fair Housing Board (for those of you who don't know, this is a government sponsored group that helps enforce rental laws), a third member was a long time member of the City Planning Commission, and the last was a local priest who works closely with the large hispanic immigration group in the city.
One big question to ask, as a single family home owner in this city WHY DON'T I HAVE REPRESENTATION ON THIS COMMITTEE?
